GMS 2 Wierd lighting issue

So I set up the lighting for my game with the Lighting System 2d asset pack following Shaun Spalding's tutorial, but when I use it in my room the lighting only lights up the object that it's touching and nothing else. I have done it exactly the same in other projects where it worked perfectly fine. I wrote the event inherited and polygon code in the create event and made the wall a child to shadow caster.
I have tried with different sprites and putting the lights on different layers.
This might just be me missing something obvious, but I hope someone can help me.
