Legacy GM Why does game maker keep corrupting my sounds?

I have GM 1.4999. And sometimes when I had a new sound it mismatches all of my previous sounds and now the sounds play the wrong sound. I do not want to use GM2, I like GM 1.4999 and I don't want to use GM2. I just want to know how do I fix this corruption thing. I don't like the gui and sprite editor of GM2 and I don't want to use it.

If it is only sometimes (not sure if I've ever had this issue myself), use version control so that you can revert destructive changes easily. Not sure what other recommendations you would expect

I was mocked a long time ago for not upgrading to 1.4.999. So I followed the peer pressure and now look at me.

(But... I think my old version of GM did this too, not sure.)
