Android Virtual Keyboard - possibly freezing game?

I've recently published a game to Google Play which makes use of the virtual keyboard for input.
I have 3 android test devices and it works great as expected. However I am getting a small number of negative reviews due to the game hanging when using the virtual keyboard.

Are there any known issues with the virtual keyboard not working as expected on some android devices? - and any work arounds if so?
