Up the garden path?

Shoot me down if I'm missing something obvious, but how can I find out which path (if any!) an instance is following? I have had a look at the manual, but can't see anything obvious. Now tell me what I'm missing, please.

You simply need to check the variable path_index, if the instance has a path this will return the index of that path, otherwise it will return -1 (no path).

e.g.

if (path_index == -1) {
    //when there is no path set, do something
}

if (path_index == my_path) {
    //if current path is "my_path", do something
}
