    UNDERCREWED is a 1 to 4 player online co-op game where everyone is running around commanding the same spacecraft.

    You can play all together at one computer with keyboard and controller compatibility or online or a combination of both, and don’t worry if there are not 4 of you there are AI players to help you out.

    • Customise your ship by adding rooms you have unlocked.

    The simple controls make the game easy to pick up and quick to start playing with your friends. There are only 4 buttons; up, down, left and right, which move the player around the ship to the various rooms which control different aspects of the ship (guns, shields etc) it’s up to you to decide which takes priority when the aliens attack!

    There are so many combinations of upgrades as you unlock different rooms and ships with our expansive skill tree. This encourages people to take on specific tasks around the ship as they specialise in certain skills.

    I’m really pleased to see people are as excited for the game as I am. I have been very slowly introducing testers to it however because there are no menus or tutorials and it also starts at a mid-game difficulty level I am still handholding players for their first games.

    I will be looking for testers at all stages of development because if you leave feedback too late the fundamental mechanics become too ingrained and hard to change.

    We ran a poll in the gaming community and decided that the game will now be called Undercrewed which we feel describes the game style and story better. This is our new logo:

    The countdown is over and we have lift off!

    It’s a really exciting time for the game at the moment. We have launched a Kickstarter which has already been going very successfully.

    We have also added a huge amount of content since the last update with many new modules that can be added to your ship, more particles, networking for bots, damage effects and much more.

    It’s a busy time for Undercrewed, we have been on a few podcasts and streams over the last few weeks which has been really exciting. Also we are starting to see news articles cropping up about it!

    We are coming up to the last few days on Kickstarter.

    It’s so exciting to see such a long list of playmodes on our Steam page.

    We also have a new logo which looks much smarter than the last one:

    Since the Kickstarter we have taken the opportunity to rip out the menus so we can put much nicer ones in, in the coming weeks I will be posting some images of these.

    The next part of the plan is to fully finish one level to a really high quality so we can start getting it into everyones hands.

    I think it’s going to look really cool with a bunch of explosions and particles coming out.


    If you didn’t catch it Undercrewed was on a bunch of streams over the last few weeks which was really exciting, it got a really positive response and also I got some great feedback!

    Loads of things have been happening behind the scenes on Undercrewed.

    I have booked booths at some upcoming expos so I can display it to a wider audience which is really exciting!

    I have also put a lot of work into the ship destruction and game over.

    You can see if an area gets shot a lot smoke and fires are more likely to break out in that area.

    There the enemies have had a lot of work on their destruction. You can see here you can individually attack parts of the ship to destroy them. I also have masking so parts of the enemy ship get more damaged as you hit them.

    That image also features a new species of enemy that is coming for the upcoming Alpha.

    I’m in the middle of remastering all of the rooms in Undercrewed so everything is animated. I’m really pleased with how polished everything is starting to look!

    Over the next few months Undercrewed will be attending many expos which I will be announcing over the coming weeks. So I have got some snazzy uniforms to wear:[​IMG]

    I have been working on making the demo level really exciting to play, so there have been lots of different types of enemies added.

    I haven’t really started distributing it around yet but I made a little teaser trailer which would be really helpful if you could share it around:


    This has become a long post but lastly I have put a whole lot of work into directional sounds and also using the Doppler Effect so you can hear which way the enemies are moving.

    I really need to post more often here so my posts aren't a meter long!

    It's time to announce that Undercrewed will be displaying at PLAY Expo this weekend. So if anyone is around London UK come down and see us and give the game a try!

    Its been really motivating to have so many flyers / banners / posters arriving at my house for the many expos we have been invited to attend.

    The first thing to mention is this weekend we will have a booth at RTX and the following weekend we have a booth at EGX. So things are really exciting at the moment.

    We have also released a whole bunch of gameplay images showing content from later in the game. Including enemies boarding onto your ship:

    I wrote a post on Steam about Control Methods, Settings and Tutorials.

    Control Methods:

    I’ve spent quite a bit of time the last month trying out different control methods and getting feedback on them. There were lots of different options so in the end I just created a whole bunch of settings to allow players to pick their own.

    Settings:

    Giving players a choice has been a bit of a theme of the month. I’ve more than doubled the amount of settings the player can pick and I would like to double it again before full launch.

    Tutorials:

    I’ve been putting a lot of thought into where players need extra help, what bits make sense and what I expect players to know at each stage of the game. I still have a long way to go with this but I’m pretty happy with how it is progressing.

    It’s been another really productive few weeks, I’m almost ready to start getting people playing, so I have been building lots of tools to help gather feedback / bugs.

    Gamepad and Settings

    I had to overhaul the settings page so it better supported gamepads, I was able to add in a few more options while I did this which was a nice bonus.

    2670 hours of programming time (doesn’t include time making art, writing dev log, or anything else)

    I didn’t have a booth at this year’s Rezzed however it was great getting meet quite a few fans as I walked around. I will be doing more expos this year and I will post about those closer the time.

    I’ve been looking forwards to this new GUI for a long time, it give me far more options to do nice things ingame, and of course I’ve kept the ability to adjust the size to make it easier to see.

    Undercrewed will be launching on Steam Early Access in September.

    I’m really thrilled to be getting the game out into the universe.
