Game has seen a major setback because of file lose.
I've tried recoding most of what I lost, so here's what I've got so far.

Renamed .exe file and process to "Under Commando.exe"

Finally incoporated armor system! (It was always there, it just didn't protect you! :p )
Added vibration to gamepad (No feedback on gamepad controls, no further controls added as such)
Added shotgun and bolt-action rifle to gamepad
Added ledge grabbing to gamepad
Added climbing ladders to gamepad
Added "Move off ladder" functionality
Added sliding to gamepad (press the movement joypad)
Updated ammunition graphics
Added bolt action ammunition
Added ammunition splash text


Changed climbing function to jump button
Improved ledge grabbing by increases climbing radius from 4 to 12
Increased the menu button sizes
Splash text is now more readable
Changed "Metabolism" perk to affect all food
"Scavenger" perk now also affects ammo from storage lockers
Adjusted shotgun audio to sound different to the bolt-action rifle


Fixed suicide audio crash
Fixed pickup sound not playing when picking up weapons already owned
Fixed bolt-action button being 5 instead of 4
Fixed two equipping duplications
Fixed ladder not allowing jumping afterwards
Fixed "Assault rifle mag reload" not having any sound

I want some input on the controls and what's preferred as I'm not a gamepad user.

So playing here. Some cool stuff there. I found it a bit slow. Animation was a bit slow.

There was a great video on adding stuff to this style of game. It was GDC video. Hmm cant remember the name. But something like adding pizzaz to your game type of thing. Adding kickback, screen shake and other things that would really help you with this game. But its exactly your game. I would look it up.

This update sure felt like it took me ages.. except it didn't... like at all.

Are you going to implement "anywhere shooting" or keep "horizontal shooting only"? When I tested it, I didn't like using the mouse. Maybe think about implementing a key to change facing direction? I dunno, I'll give it (keyboard controls) more thought later, and tell you what I think.

Really liking it so far.

Really liking it so far.
There are currently no plans for vertical shooting, I kinda locked myself in a bit of a one way tunnel with the weapon equipping system, soooo.. No flying enemies or something like that, instead it will be based on dodging attacks by jumping.

Oh also, the character now looks in the direction that you're moving, this also helps the automatic climbing system a lot in my opinion! :)

Updated to v0.05 ! I imported it into GMS2.. Though I dislike most of the changes.. It also helps improve fps a lot, so at this point, it's a no-brainer.

Ringa ding son! 0.06 is here.. It's really tiny considering the time it took to get it out.. o_O Anyways.. I just wanted to get this out so I can focus on the bug fixes now.. cause there are a lot of those.

There is a new "In-between levels" upgrade screen now! Just go collect the red keycard and progress trough the door to check it out! Only one thing to buy right now.. but hey, more's comin'! :)

Hi Hello,

Since I'm currently working on a platformer shooter as well, this peaked my interest.

The game play seems promising based on the control and feel of the player. I like the silliness as well. If there was more than just the first level, I couldn't get to it after the upgrade screen.

Other than that, I look forward to seeing this become something.

Nice updates.. Just a suggestion: maybe allow dexterity to help with jumping or ledge grabbing, too? ( like, make it easier to grab the ledge, or something.) Edit: or maybe that should be under "acrobatic"?

Thanks! :) Not sure how I'm gonna make the Ledge Grabbing easier.. Currently the Acrobatic upgrade increases climbing speed by roughly 15% But I could make Dexterity further bump that up by another 15% as well for a total of 30%

I Played it... I didn't get past the first level, got stuck on the store page. Read through the replies above and found out you have to press esc to continue. I'll be giving it another try later.

1. I'm sure you plan on adding all of this later but, I suggest adding a controls screen and allow window resizing for testing would make it a better experience.
2. Had a character duplicating bug. I think I caused it when I climbed the ladder and jumped once I reached the top.

Yeah that whole escape to continue is a little silly, I'll add a button to continue as well.
A menu is quite important, so I'll get on that too.

Now the character duplication... Hmm.. Could you somehow replicate that? I'm unsure what causes it :S
 
Looking great so far. Here's a couple gripes, but they're small:

When he climbs a ledge to his left, he ends up facing right when he reaches the top. That's no good if he needs to shoot bad guys when he gets there.

Second, when I reached the top of the level, the UI started to cover up the play area. Consider extending your map upward, if for no other reason than to fix that issue.

Third, if you're making this a low res pixel game, (and I love low res pixel games) consider rounding off where your blood spatters go, so that they lock onto whatever scenery pixel they land on, instead of having some of them a fraction of a pixel off from one another. This is not a true low res game, and is just as annoying as when people rotate pixels at that size.

Lastly, let the player walk off the top of the ladder instead of forcing him to jump off, and give him some leeway so he can walk off it plus or minus a few pixels. Intuitive controls are everything.

At any rate, you're doing an excellent job. I'll watch this game closely. Cheers!

^^^^^^^^ I managed to fix that... somehow.. It messed up my entire game when I changed that, but it's done, thank gawd!

And here's another one.. Probably the most content-heavy update so far considering file size increase.

Featuring minor controller support.. Basic movement works, firing weapons works and using medkits. I just want some basic feedback on the controls or what I should change. (I'm not a controller user)

Very crisp sound effects. :)
Do you have any plans on making enemies move?

Got some 'Getting over it' flashbacks from other demo :D Didnt quite make it to top.

Hey, i tried your demos.

Very crisp sound effects. :)
Do you have any plans on making enemies move?

Got some 'Getting over it' flashbacks from other demo :D Didnt quite make it to top.

The sound bug was fixed, thanks! :)

Enemies will move at some point yes, just gotta figure out how I want to make the AI work for 'em. Most likely just a simple "follow and jump if possible" kind of enemy.
But I haven't reached that just yet as that's probably gonna the be the most difficult thing.. so I'm most likely just gonna code that before I begin the Beta.

Sadly the files was just gone today, all my backup folders were empty. Not sure how it happened, all I know is that I'm legit furious.

Oh my God! I'm so sorry! I sure hope you find it and it isn't actually lost. That's horrible and you have my deepest sympathies.

I did find a very old backup before all my crazy features were added, so that's a major blow.. But Im gonna try my best at making it feel the same as the version that vanished from existence. My new AI system was the biggest loss 😢

Source control for versioning, and automated backups that you don't think about running yourself. Just do it, it will save tears down the road. You know how painful it is to lose work now. Don't let it happen again (well, with the granularity of the backup and the manual versioning frequency anyway..)

Temporarily added a > 1080p version for smaller resolutions (Until I find a good way to change this yourself)

Fixed the knife completely wiping out the weapon when the character switches to animation mode

Game has seen a major setback because of file lose.
I've tried recoding most of what I lost, so here's what I've got so far.

So the game has been changed drastically.

Hope most of the features have been recreated as best and close as possible to what they were before. Do let me know! This has been a rough one.
