Steam overlay not working

I have a problem with the steam overlay suddenly not working in my game, the thing is it worked intially but after I updated the game a few times it is suddenly gone. Is there anything that may have caused this? The Steam API itself works fine, achievements etc.

But the overlay with the FPS counter and screenshot features does not work suddenly. As I said, is there anything that may have caused this that I should look into?
