So, why exactly have YOYO not started developing a 3D Engine?

It would be cool if an in-house 3d engine was developed that supported all platforms. Why exactly haven't they done this yet?

For the record, I can't code my own and wouldn't know how.

The main reason is because Game Maker is for making 2D games, not 3D. They're much more focused on making Game Maker the best at what it is, rather than making it a jack-of-all trades.

That said, they really do need to add some more 3D functionality. Even drawing a 3D cube in Game Maker Studio 2 is a pain. I just think that this is a lower priority than implementing new features, such as sequences, and I think that their priorities are probably in the right order in this respect.

Before this ends up in speculation...

Please do not:
  • Speculate about GMS features or YYG policy - we don't want pointless speculation becoming rumour or being considered the "official" YYG point of view. Stick to known facts from official YYG sources please.
Topic closed - this is something only YoYo Games can answer.
