Seemingly very high latency on a local network.

Yesterday I tried to play an old GM game of mine via LAN. But it appeared that the in-game latency was extreme, like 1000ms or worse. I've played this same game with people over 3000 miles away, with virtually no visible latency.

So my question is what kinds of things might be causing this sort of problem on a LAN?

If the game is exactly the same, I would look at the network itself. Did anything change there at all? Reboot all the equipment. Make sure any computer involved have up to date drivers on the NIC. Try a tracert from on computer to the other and see where the big latency number is. If all else fails, if it GMS:1 you may want to do a rebuild with the latest patch of the software might be a fix in there for you never know.
