GameMaker Question regarding networking/multiplayer

so I've been considering adding networking/online multiplayer into my game. Before I start research, I have one question for the knowledgeable folk here on the forums which could make or break the idea for me.

Would there be any way to have two different versions of the same player-controlled object controlled by different people in different places in the same gameplay, Or would I need two separate objects?
