GameMaker Other ways to handle layers of images

I have a character and I want to display a piece of inventory on him in some cases. In this scenario it is a wrestler and a title belt. The problem is the body of the character needs to be drawn and then the belt and then the arms and head. So the only way I could think of this is to have the original full sprite and draw it, then draw the belt, then draw the arms. In order to do this I had to have two images for each frame (+ the belt).





Is there another way of handling this? It works but I am not crazy about having to create more sprites for each animation, but I really don't see a way around it.
