As GMS' art suite is not supposed to be relied on (the very tutorial told me so, I'm not being mean!), I thought we should draw attention to other alternatives for your pixel art. While I'm sure that everyone who's someone already knows how to dot their pixels, for people like me that wasn't true, and it's really bitin' me arse. I shudder to think of how many hours I could've saved by using a pixel editor that was actually supposed to be used... and wasn't MS Paint. I hate that interface.

So here we go. I'd like to make a thread for any tools you can suggest to people who might need tools for making games. You just post to tell me about the tool, what it does, and I'll update my post to include it.

Or, I'd actually like to suggest the moderators to delete/lock my thread, and make a new one, preferably stickied for the benefit of newbs, where someone more deeply entwined with this forum could make more regular updates than I would, and provide a more informed perspective about which programs are more gooded. Righted grammarism help would, too much.

Any recommendations, more categories, anything & stuff?

A lot of premade resources can be found on opengameart.org... they've got 2D art, 3D art, and I even think they've got categories for music and sound effects nowadays. Could be worth putting on the list, I guess.

Seen good things about both Aseprite and Pyxel. If it was my money I would go Aseprite. or look at my other post ;)

Pyxel Edit is excellent for tile sets, if that's your thing. Haven't tested it yet with animations. I believe it has a demo, or you can download an alpha version or something.

Anything else?

Oooh, that looks sweet! I use special title macros with values like "______________________" to split things up, but having that dedicated editor seems even more convenient.
