I remember that the in the legacy forum, this topic would pin up other servers shared by gmc users. Is this still a thing for this thread? I would love to share an ip of one server. :)

I currently don't have pics of the mod in action but I recommend the Biomes O Plenty mod. Nice mod that adds a nice feeling to the game. Even small things like coral reefs in the waters help add a nice feeling to the game.

Hey guys. So a few months ago I joined the team for Project Zearth. It's a really cool map that now has a server as well. Y'all should check it out!

I've been working on a 16^3 battle map. The entire map will be included within a cube of wall length 16. Could do with some feedback:

This is what it looks like from the outside, so you can get a sense of how small this is.

It's a team battle map, this is the green team's spawn location. In the bottom corner of the map.

This is the basement. Walls force players to walk around it in a certain way, and give bow and arrows a purpose.

Here's the ground floor, looking up to the roof where the blue spawn is.

The ground floor has ender pearl dispensers, ender pearls will unlock a lot of new options for a player, these are close to the green side as the greens will be at natural disagvantage having to fight off attacks from above.

This is the veiw from a gridge on the top floor, over to the other side of the top floor.

This is a veiw inside the top floor. I really need a use for this space. Here we see a staircase that connects the top floor, basement, and roof together.

And here's the roof, it's divided into two by that little bridge, the glowstone is the blue teas spawn.

There's some space tucked away to assemble command blocks. My concern at the moment is tidying this up. I don't like the spiral staircase, considering removing it for a vertical cushioned drop straight from top to basement. There are two main avenues of battle, the basement, and then the other three floors, this strikes me as silly, I'd like to figure out how to incorporate a third pathway of battle but I feel that might involve changing the whole map. Most of my focus is on making sure every part of the map is accessible and there's a reason to go there, and ensuring it's balanced. (initially I wanted a symmetrical design to guarantee balance, but it was just impossible to make it interesting in such a limited space. Also look isn't my strong uit, so any advice there would be great. Can anyone help? Thanks.[/spoiler]

On my previous computer, I had spent billions of hours making a world, when I moved on to a new one and emptied my hard drive, I forgot to back up that world, are worlds somewhere stored online or not? This happened in January, but I still miss that world.

No, worlds aren't saved online unless you set up some third party method of periodically saving %appdata%/.minecraft/saves to the cloud.

Why do people use realistic resource packs, though? It's still blocks and will always be blocks and the point of the game is blocks and blockiness.
    Not realism.
I suppose it comes down to personal preference, though. If you use them, why?

As you said, personal preference, some people just like more realistic texture packs.

Anyway, when you talk about blocks, it's hardly like the non realistic texture packs are all about blocks, purebdcraft is one of the most popular non-realistic packs, and that one isn't blocky at all, in fact I'd argue it almost always avoids lining up with the contours of the cube.

The only texture pack I can think of that does have squares as it's main motif is the oCd pack by disco, and even then, it's not like squares are the main theme, they're just a consequence of trying to make the pack as simple as possible.

Anyway, I did a little more work on the 16x16x16 battle map, hope you guys enjoy:
Going back to the start and picking out a new location to put up my frame.

I've placed down the spawns and checkpoints. This time I've placed the spawn point in a different location to the places each team has to defend, this will make it a bit easier for tte enemy team to capture the opponent's objective. The objectives are slightly larger, 4 x 4, again so they're easier to capture.

I've used pink wool to designate the first path. I want there to be three different routes of attack in this game, over the two in the previous game. I've made the corridors thinner, (2 wide versus three wide) to save space, and am using more gently sloping stairs beause fighting at a 45 degree angle isn't much fun.

    Placing in a second route...

Putting in my third route, this took a lot of effort, I wasn't happy with this route as I felt it gave too much advantage to the blue team, but there were few other routes that worked. I'll have to figure out some way to balance this.

Here you can see I changed the pink route. Forcing players to turn 180 degrees is confusing, this way is much clearer to the players.

With my routes done I can begin building, here you can see I've put some question marks where I felt I was using too much space. Must think of a way to fill these areas!

This is the basement level mostly done. Here you can clearly see the three different pathways that are available to a player.

And this is my balancing. I've put some water here so that the red path becomes considerably tougher for the blues. Going for a sewery feel here, thinking I should do this map up like smoggy Victorian London, might use black stained glass instead of white.

Any tips and advice? I'm bad with aesthetics so help there would be good.

My point was that Minecraft is definitely not meant to be realistic, and realistic textures kinda don't line up with the whole theme in my opinion.

    Nice arena, by the way.

This used to be one of my most played game.
I used to go crazy with redstone inventions.

Kinda stopped playing when 1.8 or 1.9 came out. Didnt have enough time to play it.

Might join a server once I've found the time.

Because this isn't GM-related and something that isn't belongs to the Off Topic forum, i.e., game discussions are meant to be carried out here.

Come join this server! Its beautiful, peaceful, and something magical with full of wonders!

False! Its a intense survival server opened 24/7 that haves insane mob spawning that is hellish! No mortal soul can survive this! Its a challenge you must take if you have the guts and glory!
We also have runecraft installed so you can make secret entrances, teleporters, jump powers, and lots of interesting mechanism.
I plan to continue updating this with new plugins, features, and making it more tougher to play. This makes Dark Souls look like a baby game.

This server is so much fun! I love how useful the drops from chickens and wolves are. Makes it way easier for new players; all they have to do is kill a few to get everything they need.

My favorite part about Minecraft is making maps. I like command blocks a lot. Which makes sense considering how much programming I do.
This is the only map I've ever fully finished, almost a year ago: The Gauntlet (Yes, my MC name is Epic_Cow_Cheese)

@Law Looks cool. Are you planning the map to just be that one, or planning to have multiple arenas?

That illustration is so hyped. I can make a cover of that pic with those creatures included by using mods from techbigs.

Aside from being able to change everything, my favorite thing about Minecraft is the formidable world generator. I love exploring the map. Floaty blocks suck though, and floaty trees.

    Guys, I have great news...
Yesterday I found an old SSD that was broken, but my friend managed to open it and look at the files, and all of my old childhood saves were in there! Including my favourite world.
Some things in this rotten world DO have a happy ending.

I use an old version of MC because I originally started a world in 1.4.7 , could not get it to import it into 1.7.x . I dont use MC as a game, I use it as for abstract architecture and terraforming / landscaping , in a agrarian setting. No hostile mobs ( peaceful mode ). So I am quite content with using 1.6.4 - I dont care about upgrading ( I DONT LIKE the newer versions after 1.7.x ).

I think it's pretty lackluster. you look at world generation mods like biome bundle or the previously recommended biomes o plenty, and you're gonna be seeing some hella chunky vistas. so I guess the thing is that the world generator is serviceable now, but could still be vastly improved. a major update to world generation I think is well overdue

Thanks RollyBug. I've seen plenty of fancy graphics packs with better lighting, reflections, etc and I wanted to do something different and crazy. I wouldn't use them all the time, but the might be fun for a video or something.
I got some more ideas that I want to try next!
