Legacy GM Ideas for Wall Jump mechanic

So, I've been working on a game where I did a wall jump with 2 separate objects, and from what I learned, switching objects like that is bad practice, and cause the game to do frequent crash bugs. So I tried to do one object and I followed Shaun Spaulding's tutorial, but it didn't work. So I need some ideas about a wall jump mechanic whether it's code or Drag and Drop. Let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks!


What about an easy way?

If you are not touching the ground
and if you are touching a wall
and if you are holding the jump button
and if you press left or right
make a jump

In a code version:
if !place_meeting(x, y+1, obj_wall)
and keyboard_check(vk_space)
and ((place_meeting(x+1, y, obj_wall) and keyboard_check_pressed(vk_left)) or (place_meeting(x-1, y, obj_wall) and keyboard_check_pressed(vk_right)))
    vspd = -10;
