Question - Code How similar is the code for GMS 2 to GMS 1.4?

Are the languages reasonably close with a few minor tweaks? (I hope, I hope)

Is there a tutorial or fact sheet that I could read up on changing over?

I have just gotten reasonably good at writing GML, how hard is the changeover?

There are some new functions in 2.0 to deal with the new features such as layers, camera, tiles etc, and some of the 1.4 functions have been deprecated or renamed a little.

Full lists here:

GMS2 Obsolete Functions List

In general, there will be a little learning and checking the manual etc, but you will be fine - it's not like learning a new language.
