Commercially speaking there're only two: male and female. That's how they can market stuff for boys/girls, men/women etc. But in realitly? It's actually up to you to decide how you describe your genre best!
ehhh some products flourish by marketing to neither or both, so there are roughly three to four genders if we're going by "gendered products".Commercially speaking there're only two: male and female. We already have a word to describe a person's interests - it's 'personality'. Why bring the word 'gender' into it?That's until realized gender is more about interests than biological sex.
[insert PC master race unfunny 60fps or gtfo joke here]30 per second.
that kinda dont make sense to me, your intrests define your personality? first time hearing this. can you explain whats the logic or w/e behind this statement? We already have a word to describe a person's interests - it's 'personality'. Why bring the word 'gender' into it?
No, your personality determines your interests. Your interests are therefore indicative of personality. Only a certain type of person will be interested in model railways, only a certain type of person will skydive, only a certain type of person will work 80 hours a week.your intrests define your personality?
Ok I agree it wasn't the best-phrased point. Maybe a better way of putting it is that your interests are your interests. Why bring the idea of gender into that?that kinda dont make sense to me, your intrests define your personality? first time hearing this. can you explain whats the logic or w/e behind this statement?
I found a recipe for curry that you can make in fifty seconds. It's called "Curry Up"anyway atleast drop a joke or smthin
A very good point, but it illustrates the same issue that this topic deals with as a whole. If a boy decides that he's actually a girl based on his interests, and thinks that the fact that he plays with dolls makes him a girl, then that's an example of the existing gender stereotypes that the LGBTQ+ community has been fighting so hard to overcome. Boys should be able to play with dolls and makeup - and likewise girls with footballs and video games - without feeling like that reflects on their gender identity. Surely saying that your interests define your gender only reinforces these gender stereotypes? Let your interests be your interests; your gender identity is personal and innate and it is yours to understand.ya know i suppose if you have a boy who plays with dolls and gets scolded a/o beat for doing so lead to the boy deciding that he is probably actually a girl because of his interests, then we actually could say gender had been influenced by interests. o:
my post was more with the intent that, unfortunately, this probably does happen as a result of restrictive thinking rather than "this happens therefore interests DO define gender so you're wrong, hah!".A very good point, but it illustrates the same issue that this topic deals with as a whole. yep.Anyone else seen anything on the whole ''Jordan Peterson'' controversy on this topic?
&Why do we even have segregated lavatories? Well as far as I can tell there is zero good reason
I'm not making a comment about the difficulties those that are born gay face... and can't control the way their body is or what temptations they face and struggle with everyday. My heart goes out to those that suffer and life hasn't be easy for them.splitting people into the two categories of man and woman. Why do we do it?
Biologically, in natural human existence, there are three genders. People are either born with a male gender, a female gender, or hermaphrodite gender.I think there are 3. male, female, and hermaphrodite. what's your opinion? 1? 2? 3? 63? etc. and without attacking anyone, explain why you feel the way you do.
I feel gender is not determined by how we act, the way we think, or our sexual preferences. Just by what our body features include, and by that I only mean private parts. No, not our posture, the shape of our muscle tone, or where our fat grows most. While those things may be influenced by a given gender, I find they don't determine the gender. Just the private parts.
But these are just my personal thoughts.
What are yours?
But see, thats the thing. Gender shouldnt be influenced by any emotional, intellectual or psychological aspect.ya know i suppose if you have a boy who plays with dolls and gets scolded a/o beat for doing so lead to the boy deciding that he is probably actually a girl because of his interests, then we actually could say gender had been influenced by interests. o:
http://www.who.int/gender-equity-rights/understanding/gender-definition/en/Gender refers to the socially constructed characteristics of women and men – such as norms, roles and relationships of and between groups of women and men. It varies from society to society and can be changed.
https://www.nature.com/news/sex-redefined-1.16943The idea of two sexes is simplistic. Biologists now think there is a wider spectrum than that.
No I'm suggesting that the idea of a "women's" lavatory or a "men's" lavatory is dumb."Let's just let men use a woman's bathroom"
Then I suggest not accepting blindly any behaviour without restraint. I am in favour of discouraging rape, murder and deceasing in the strongest possible terms.Rape, murder, deceases, are prominent in societies that accept blindly any behavior without restraint.
Right, but it's a largely irrelevant trait, no? To me or you, what does it matter if the person standing before you is man, woman, some other gender from their culture... It matters very little and it should not matter at all, lest we start inadvertently dictating what people should do and how they should live their lives based on this nonsense stat.Gender refers to the socially constructed characteristics of women and men – such as norms, roles and relationships of and between groups of women and men. Well that post was sexy and informative. Nocturne strikes again! You guys have NO idea what you are talking about.
http://www.who.int/gender-equity-rights/understanding/gender-definition/en/
And if you are talking about SEX instead of gender then:

Seriously, you people need to read more.
Yep, that's exactly what I think and why I quoted that particular line. Gender is a fiction that we have created to "identify" people. It's not based on actual sexual characteristics and as such is plastic and prone to being changed based on the current social and political climate of the society. Throughout the ages, many cultures have had (and still have) multiple genders because their society norms permitted it, and there is no reason to believe that we can't change our own societal norms to accept three or more genders too.Right, but it's a largely irrelevant trait, no? To me or you, what does it matter if the person standing before you is man, woman, some other gender from their culture... It matters very little and it should not matter at all, lest we start inadvertently dictating what people should do and how they should live their lives based on this nonsense stat.
So if the law requires that a person is male or female, should that sex be assigned by anatomy, hormones, cells or chromosomes, and what should be done if they clash? “My feeling is that since there is not one biological parameter that takes over every other parameter, at the end of the day, gender identity seems to be the most reasonable parameter,” says Vilain. In other words, if you want to know whether someone is male or female, it may be best just to ask.
Science says no such thing, don't let the woefully ignorant tell you otherwise.Science says 2, don't let the libtards tell you otherwise.
seeing the words "science says" and "libtards" in the same sentence always tells you the post is gonna be goodScience says 2, don't let the libtards tell you otherwise.
When people pop into threads to say "now play nice!" after someone gives **** to someone who deserved it, it always feels like they're low key supporting the person who started it to me....
This was a post that well...you know what's going to pop in the post so I posted probably what was expected.seeing the words "science says" and "libtards" in the same sentence always tells you the post is gonna be good
You should read some of the scientific articles I've posted in this thread already. Sex and Gender are NOT the same (the topic is about gender), and scientifically speaking, sex is much more complex. There's 3 sexes if you count hermaphrodite which are rare to begin with but do exist.
yeah but what if they have neither?in NO recorded cases where they can reproduce with both organs.
Chromasomes, baby.yeah but what if they have neither?
