GML How do I set a random chance?

Like if I want something to have a 1 in 10 chance of happening, how would I set that?

Use the random function. Easy way to do it is something like if irandom(10) = 1 {...rest of the code

To be exact, you should use irandom(9) or irandom_range(1,10) because irandom(n) returns [0,n], so n+1 possibilities.

Or just straight up random:

if(random(1) < 0.1){
    //Happens once in every ten times, or so.
}

And don't forget randomize() at the start of your game if you want it to be different every time

I use this little function below, so chance(0.1) returns a 10% chance.

function chance(_val) {
    return random(1) < _val;
}
