how do i get the game to fit fullscreen?

so i know how to activate fullscreen but the visuals cant be stretched to fullscreen
im not looking for an actual fullscreen, but how do i just turn all this darkness at the sides of the game into the normal background?

Making the view width and height the same as the display_get_width() and height will probably be the easiest fix. Then you'd need to offset the view_xview[0] and yview to center your view so there is equal space on each side.

Also, even if you're not scaling for devices, these articles helped me understand scaling, views, and the GUI layer a lot better.
