Help with using SSH keys with github

Can anyone help me with setting up a Github repository that uses an SSH key? Github is deprecating basic user/password authentication. I have tried for hours and hours to follow the documentation or find other tutorials to set up Github version control using a SSH key with GMS2 and I just can't figure it out. It never works and I have no idea at all where in the process I'm doing it wrong.
The only part I can seem to do correctly is add an SSH key to my Github account, but after that I can't figure out how to actually use it. Can anyone help?
