GML Having Issues with lengthdir function in gamemaker 1(Plz Help)

I have a game in which my player has a sword which uses lengthdir to stay around the player and attack it all works just fine,but when my mouse gets close to the sword it starts to glitch out and splits into 2.Now i understand why this is happening but what I want to know is a solution.Been at it for 2 hours.Pls Help.
