GMS 1.4. Bug at the start

Suddenly GMS 1.4 started to show me this bug right at the start:

What version of 1.4 are you using? The older versions of 1.4 displayed information on the splash screen retrieved from the internet, which has now become obsolete and broken.
The last version 1.4.9999 removed this feature, and may be of use?

If you are on 1.4.9999, was it previously working or is this a fresh install? There can be issues installing modules and that error message mentions modules.

I'm using 1.4.9999 version. Yesterday it was working fine and I didn't even restart Windows. And today it's just like that. I tried to reinstall it, and install on a different PC with the same result.

I have tested on 2 computers, (restarting PC and opening game maker) and neither are having this issue on my end.
I am using windows 10, what are you using?

Just to clarify, do you mean when you open game maker, or when you compile/run your project?

Have you tried opening game maker with your wifi disabled?

I tried just now. It said "unable to download rss..." but started.

This error occurs for me after a fresh install of game maker, if the module servers are down. The installer only contains studio 1.4, not the modules as well. So if your license has modules on it, it will want to download those. But it cannot because the servers are down. In this case, the problem just usually resolves itself in a few days. Perhaps this error is occurring as you've reinstalled 1.4:

But this missing module error only occurs for me if I make a clean installation, it's never occurred just randomly like you said. Although your original error mentions modules too, so maybe it's a deeper issue.

Oh yeah, that will do it That's really bad.

Actually if that's the only problem, it might be possible to fix this. Game maker stores the URLs it tries to connect to in the windows registry, so I wonder if it's possible to:
1. Host a local webserver with the contents of that webpage:

I think I have to just completely move to GMS 2.0 at last (which I used only for porting to consoles). But somehow I have problems with converting 1.4 projects to 2.0 today as well (it takes hours and then just stops converting at some points).

It turns out I was having the same problem as you so I thought I'd come here and see what was going on. In any case, I just wrote a small patching tool which will modify the installation and should get it working again for now (it has an option to undo the patch should the day come when YYG resolves this bug).

Check through it to make sure it's safe & to your liking of course, it did the job for me.

I just wrote a small patching tool which will modify the installation and should get it working again for now

When I try to use the patch, it just immediately says that it can't access the RSS file to find the missing modules, and with it disabled it just creates the "waiting for download" infinite loop
