I have a student that when they are working with their scripts and close them all of their code disappears and it’s like they had never started while the file is open. Is a fix to this? Thanks.

Where is their project stored? This sounds like what usually happens when there's a file access conflict in which an external program uses/locks the project files while you're working on them, leading to GM being unable to write to them and, therefore, while keeping the changed contents in memory, they won't be reflected in the file and thus can't be re-loaded when the project or individual files of it are closed and then re-opened. Common causes for this are cloud drive sync services, so if your student stores their project in something like a Dropbox or OneDrive folder, they'll have to take it out of there.

We are on remote learning right now. They have to VPN to the network and Remote Desktop to their individual computer in my room. Then they pull their files from their individual shared drive on the network. So what would be the fix?

When you say "pull", does that mean copying the project to a local drive and then using it, or using the project directly from the network drive? Make sure they're accessing the project files from a local drive - as in, neither a cloud drive nor a network drive.

Yes they are accessing the file from a network shared drive. It doesn’t happen to everyone though. This is the instance. My students remote inside the class and vpn and remote during remote learning. They don’t have problems in the classroom. They still remote to desktop and pull from network drive.

It's not guaranteed to cause issues, but it can. It's a bit like stepping on a defunct land mine - it may go off, it may not. It may be causing problems just for this single student.

If changing it doesn't make a difference, try performing a fresh install. If the install on their PC somehow got messed up, this should fix it.

Ok thank you.

Another issue is that we are using a 2.3 video tutorial series and the author is DND into creation code in an object. It’s not allowing us to do so. Is it because we are using the trial version?
