Try both, use the one with less issues for your projects.
Those 'minor issues' are not going to go away. They are perma-locked in.
That would be the best solution for avoiding any remaining 1.4 issues as like you say they are not going to be fixed, however some people don't like hearing that as a solution as they wanna get the full worth out of their $15 Humble Bundle.
1.4 is still extremely usable though. I haven't come across any breaking bugs. Still seems to be great for overall development. But if I were to release something commercially, I'd strongly recommend porting it to 2.x first. As it will most certainly bite you later on, especially on non desktop targets.
