Erasing part of sprite when overlaying with other?

Good day!

I would like to know if there is an easy way to have an object with an sprite that instead of being visible itself, it deletes other sprites beneath it, but just the part beneath it. Something like breaking a wall, a lantern effect or a fog of war engine. I´ve seen several tutorials about this, but there are too complex for me (I´m a total noob, to say the truth) or are´nt exactly for what I want, that´s why I´m asking about a simpler way to do that, even if it´s way uglier.
