I find having a little alcoholic drink can settle down my anxieties and my "over caution" as it were, allowing me to simply "do", instead of try and consider every possible pitfall or issue with the code I am writing, and rather have the vim to figure my way out of them when they make themselves known.

That said, most of what I'd consider my best work was done while drinking tea and coffee. (which isn't much really)
I've never really had any major mishaps while being under the influence though, even completely sloshed.
