My character won't stay behind the fence, i'm new to coding, and i'm having trouble fixing the code i'm using to allow him to stay behind the fence even when attacking...

Should your sprite height be a factor in depth calculations at all? Looks like your attack down sprite is significantly taller than the other sprites, and when you add it to the equation your depth is lowered.
