Changing opacity of background assets

Hi there,

I recently bought some really nice assets, but have a hard time making them look nice. In the images attached on the page the tiles on the background layer are less opaque (I think?) and this creates depth. This means a player is better visible in front of this background layer.

Now the issue is that the tiles in the background can also be used in the foreground, so I’d prefer not to create 2 different tilesets. Is there any other way to achieve this result?

Here’s a gif of how it currently looks: https://twitter.com/koekenbakker28/status/1067148100198903808?s=21

Here’s the desired end result: https://www.gamedevmarket.net/asset/pixel-art-military-platformer-assets-8271/

Thanks for your time :)

All right, I came up with a solution and that is to add a white layer in between the front and background assets that has an alpha of 0.15 or so. It creates this result, any pro's or cons for this method? I have no camera system yet, but I think I can just stick the layer to the camera and then it will always make the layers behind it a little bit more on the background, thus creating depth.
