Forum Game Card Game Mafia: Mafia Victory

Welcome back to the Casino!
(This is heavily inspired by Shadow Array's forum game of the same name and its sequel, back on the old GMC.)

Basic Mafia rules for those unfamiliar with them (insert shameless pug joke here, I honestly don't rember how many people this has been taken from now...)
There are two main factions, town and mafia. It is the town's goal to eliminate all the mafia, while the mafia kills the town members. The game ends when either all mafia are dead, or mafia has voting control. Roles and alignments of players are initially unknown, except for the mafia, who know who each other are. Town need to use their judgement to find the mafia members and lynch them.

During the daytime, players discuss who they wish to lynch, voting for who they wish to lynch. When a majority is reached (50% + 1), a lynch occurs, killing the targeted player. At that time, it becomes night. During night mafia discuss who they wish to kill in a monitored group PM. When they have agreed, the targeted person is killed, and it becomes day once more. This loop continues until one faction reaches their win condition.

If you are considered dead, you can no longer take part in discussion, unless you are somehow returned to life. Dead or not, you will win or lose with your faction.

I will assign each signup a random role and aligment via pm when the game starts.
Some notes:
  • You may self-vote, vote for no-lynch and Unvote at any time. Please Bold these so they can be seen.
  • Roles and alignments are generally NOT revealed on death in this game.
  • A Region Card is dealt at the start of each day, and has an effect until it is replaced.
  • Assume some amount of craziness here, simply due to the nature of the cards, I will be attempting to keep this as balanced as I can though.
  • At the start of the game, each player will be dealt 4 cards, at the start of each following day, each player is dealt one additional card.
  • Players holding 5 or more cards at the start of the day must discard down to 4 cards.
  • You cannot discard unless a role or card instructs you to, or to return your hand to 4 cards.
  • Cards hold abilities that can be used, some are passive, but most are activated.
  • Day Cards can only be used at daytime, Night Cards can only be used at night. Twilght cards can be used at any time.
  • Private Cards are activated in your Role PM, Public cards should be revealed in topic to activate them.
  • To reveal a card, copy/paste the entire card into the topic, do not reveal cards unless otherwise instructed.
  • If you are unsure about a card, please ask in your Role PM.
  • Do not pretend to activate a card you do not have.
  • Should multiple cards be activated between my resolution posts, I will be handling them in the order they are played, which might mean latter cards might not be activated.
  • Posting during Nighttime is not allowed, but there are some cards that require revealing at night.
  • Posting during Nighttime is not allowed unless you have a card that instructs otherwise. (Yes, I did put this twice)
Let's begin:
You never thought you'd see this place open again. Yet it's been reopened, and despite the re-brand it seems to be the same casino it was under the GMC Casino name, and business has picked up despite the goings on that lead to the previous two closures. An ominous feeling passes by when you glance at the one vacant table, aside from a young man dressed in the attire of a dealer, shuffling a deck of cards. Noticing your look, he looks up and smiles warmly at you, was that a look of surprise he briefly displayed? You shake it off as you see the chips in the rack, chips balanced carefully on top of the already full rack.

You can just about make out the sign next to him reading 'Mafia'. The table itself is rather worn, the what must have been green felt, is starting to pale, where it isn't discoloured from what you assume to be drink or torn away so the wood below is visible. The dealer himself is the one thing that doesn't seem to fit with the table.

Noticing your interest, the dealer nods and starts shuffling the other deck used in the game. The small table is soon swamped in eager players, placing their money down and getting ready. The dealer shakes his head, and waves the money away; after all the stakes here are much higher, as this is Card Game Mafia.

While it would be nice to have a couple more players to reduce some of the rng factor, as I can technically start this with 5, I'm going to set a tentative signup deadline for Tuesday the 25th of April.

The dealer nods again at each of the six players as he deals them each 4 cards from the most recently shuffled decks.

Each player also finds themselves with 2 extra cards, one stating their role, and the other alignment.

"Now this is just a formality, but please confirm when you receive your hand," he asks.

((Role PMs and initial hands should all be sent out. EDIT: Just a note, if you reply in pm i will count as confirming too. Only person not currently confirmed is roy.))

I take my cards, place them all face down to the dealer and say politely, 'new deal, Id like a mulligan'

The dealer frowns at Storyteller, "You were given four cards randomly, like everyone else." His tone is polite, but very serious. "Uncle said never to pick a favourite; so like everyone else you will need to play with what you were given." The dealer glances back at the cards, "so make use of them." His tone suggests finality.

"In any case, now we are all accounted for, let us see what region the new day holds for us..." the dealer continues, as if Storyteller had never even tried to mulligan his hand.

The dealer turns over a card from an olive-green backed deck:

Market: Players may trade cards between each other. These are a one for one trade. You must own a card in order to offer it.

As the card touches the table, the surroundings are replaced with many market stalls, each offering plentiful fruits, cakes, or other food.

"Before we go any further, " the dealer continues paying the changed scenery no mind at all, "You'll find the cards have a rarity. Common is the most common, then Uncommon, Rare and LEGENDARY."

"Now I turn the table to you all." He finishes.

Day 1 ends on the 30th of April.

Public cards should be revealed in topic to activate them, this needs more than just the card name.

The dealer nods to someone not visible past the stalls, a moment later, a green fluid is injected into Roytheshort.

((For reference that was an Uncommon Card.))

((The first LEGENDARY Card used folks, next time include it please roy XD))

The dealer doesn't even move this time, as the attendants now inject Mercerenies with red fluid, having barley finished injecting Roytheshort.

The dealer acknowledges Roy's card with a simple nod, placing face up next to him to signify.

The dealer then moves the Market Region card aside, and draws a new one to replace it. He doesn't place it down yet.

"It is your choice amusudan, place this Shifting Sands Region in play, or use the one at the top of the deck. Take the risk for a better Region, or stick with what is known. Until this choice is made, the Region is treated as Plains"
As the dealer speaks, the market stalls vanish, and all you can see is grass.

Plains - No special effects
Shifting Sands - It takes one additional vote to cause a lynch.

Yeah I don't really like what Roy is doing, so I'm going to:

Sunfire
Public Day Card: Target a player, one card in their hand is publicly revealed.
Uncommon Card.

Sunfire on Roy

A beam of solar light beams down on Roytheshort's one remaining card:

Parley
Private Twilight Card: Target a player, they are offered the opportunity to see a card in your hand. Should they accept, one of their cards is also revealed to you.
Common Card.

((EDIT: I'm also heading off for the night, so card activations will be queued for a bit.))

That's my last card, it isn't a threat. Thanks Merc.

"Shifting Sands is on it's way out, but lets see what fate has in store." the dealer apparently isn't feeling quite as creative after having held the region card up for quite a while. The dealer places the Shifting Sands card on top of the discarded Market card, then draws the next card placing it straight onto the table.

A rather odd thing occurs around the table, many buildings made of playing cards rapidly bloom out of the grassy plains, for the new region is:
Card Bank: Any discarded card is placed into the card bank. When this region leaves play, one of these cards is given to a random player.

"Four votes are required for a lynch to occur, " the dealer responds, "and currently noone is voting for anyone."
((EDIT: the shifting sands region never took effect, while amusdan was pondering, the region was Plains, no special effect))

The dealer takes the doubler card from in front of Roytheshort

Current Votals:
Mercerenies (2) - Roytheshort, Doubler
Abstaining - Storyteller, Mercerenies, Shawn Basnett, amusdan, Misu

And the vote. All I did was reveal your card, which is good for town. Now we know that (for the moment) you're mostly harmless except for the mystery injections, which I too would like to hear about.

In fact, I'd really like to hear about them. Vote: Roy

Shawn Basnett

Okay, being that Roy probably won't explain what they are, obviously. I have another plan.

-Ender Eye
Public Day Card: Target 3 players. One card in each of their hands is put into a pool. Privately pick one to reveal, and one to gain a copy of.
Uncommon Card.

Target: Roy, Merc, amusudan.

"Very well then, " The dealer nods, before pulling a card out of the deck and handing it to Shawn Basnett face down.
"As to the Detective Card, " the dealer continues:
Detective
Private Night Card: Name a card. Should it exist, it is added to your hand. This card cannot create cards rarer than itself.
Uncommon Card.

"And currently the votes stand as follows:"
Mercerenies (2) - Roytheshort, Doubler
roytheshort (1) - Mercerenies
Abstaining - Storyteller, Shawn Basnett, amusdan, Misu
It takes 4 votes to lynch a player.

Day 1 ends on the 30th of April. (I don't wish to give an exact time, as it'll vary as to when i can get around to it, will be around midday BST though if I can help it)

That reveal you just did works out really well for us, if I'm reading this correctly. So one of me, Roy, or amusu has the Detective card. And I know that it's not me, so that leaves Roy and amusu. If it's Roy then that's worthless to us. But if it's amusu then we can ask him to use it.

@amusudan If that is your Detective card, we can use it to figure out what Roy is up to. Now, Red Injection is a legendary card, and Detective can only make uncommon/common cards, so it can't become that. However, if you were to use it on Green Injection (an uncommon card) tonight, you would get a copy of that card and would be able to share its effect with us. Does that sound like a good plan? Plus, I just claimed no Detective, so if amusu turns up dead tomorrow that really looks incriminating for Roy.

Shawn Basnett

Discount Dev
Actually, we know Roy doesn't have it. His last card was revealed. amusudan has to have it. The question is, should he use it on green injection, which Roy injected himself with, or should he use it on Red Injection, which he injected you with.

Mercerenies

Good observation. I hadn't remembered that. He cannot use it on Red Injection, as the Detective card says it can't make cards rarer than itself. Red Injection was given to be a legendary card. Green, on the other hand, is merely uncommon and thus should be a candidate for Detective.

There's no point using detective on my cards if you're going to kill me. Use them on something else!
