Question - IDE Cannot build project using YYC on Mac IDE

Hi,

I'm currently using the mac IDE on both a macbook pro and imac and have the same problem on both machines when trying to build the project using YYC. The VM build works with no problems. I've looked around for a fix and tried a few things mentioned on other posts such as reinstall xcode, and checking I have the latest mono framework but none of those helped. I am currently on osx Catalina on both machines.

There is a whole load of info that gets spat out at me when I try the build so I'm not sure what's relevant, so if you need more info let me know and I can post it.
Always post the whole log from the failed build to allow people to see what might be causing the issue.

If you can put the output into code tags (and spoiler tags if it's especially long) that would be even better.

One thing I found uncomfortable in the log is that some of the project folders are named "test project" while others are "test_project". I'd recommend changing whitespaces in folders to underlines.
Other than that, the real log seems to go to:
/Users/rhyskillick/GameMakerStudio2/Mac/GMS2MAC/test_project/debug.log
There should be more information about what is that error -43.

Also, you may need to check that your both mac OS and xcode are up-to-date.

Thanks for the reply :)

I have tried installing mono framework already and xcode is on the latest version, same with the OS.

When I check the debug log all it says is Starting... and nothing else in the file.

I'm sorry for the bump again, I still haven't resolved this issue. I submitted a support ticket over a month ago and they still haven't responded, and I've been actively looking for a solution trawling through older posts to see if anyone else had the same problem as me but with no success.
 
Once the build has completed, does Xcode open automatically?

If not, go to your output folder:

/Users/rhyskillick/GameMakerStudio2/Mac/GMS2MAC/test_project/

And open the Xcode project manually from there.

Then try building the app directly from Xcode.

I've had some luck in the past doing it this way.

I opened the xcode project manually and it appears to be an issue with the apple developer account. When I build the project it fails and gives me two error messages:

No account for team "XXX". Add a new account in the Accounts preference pane or verify that your accounts have valid credentials.
No signing certificate "Mac Development" found: No "Mac Development" signing certificate matching team ID "XXX" with a private key was found.

I'll retry the setup process for the mac target (recheck accounts etc) and see how that goes. Do you need a valid developer account to build via VM as well or just YYC?

Okay, I've double checked I set everything up properly (certificates, app developer account working properly, same team member ID) and can still only build using vm. As mentioned above, when I build directly through xcode it says there is no account and no signed mac development certificate, both of which I have.

Hi,

I have the exact same problem... Compiles fine with VM, not with YYC, same error as previously mentioned. I'm running Catalina with the latest GameMaker version/runner.
The question is - are *some* people able to successfully export Mac builds with YYC?

It sucks because YYC is heavily recommended by the Yoyo team themselves for notarization which will be required soon!

I'm using Bash (default Catalina version) but I get the error "--username: command not found" and my bash skills are limited so I have no idea what's wrong :/

EDIT 2 : Never mind, it was actually bad copy/paste - I needed to remove the line jumps. After this I had other trouble - the password you need to indicate is NOT your Apple Store password but what's called an "application specific password" which you can generate on your Apple developer account... :rolleyes: And after this I had to sign all contracts on my account, even the "paid application" one... Now it's uploading. Hopefully this can help some of you!

EDIT 3 : Looks like my app.zip has been notarized successfuly (I received an email saying so) However, the stapling step does not work and just cannot : "Stapler is incapable of working with ZIP archive files". So I'm guessing there's something wrong with the example script provided by Yoyo Games. I haven't found a way to staple a whole directory but apparently stapling is only for being able to launch the app while offline so... no big deal, I think. I doubt anyone would download my game while not being connected to the web :p

STILL, I couldn't make the Mac export work with Yoyo Compiler. If anyone can help with that, this would be greatly appreciated!

I find the issue a little odd as it says the issue is IOS GAMEPAD. Unless I'm missing something IOS is iPhones and iPads but I hve set the build to OS X!!!!

I suggest someone reports this to the YoyoGames team. I would do it but they require to submit our project, and mine is way too big.
I couldn't reproduce the issue with an empty project, maybe it happens as soon as you use gamepad functions? (considering that seems to be the library causing the issue)

Bugger! I'm still on High Sierra (10.13) and Xtools 10.1 because I've got a 2011 MacBook that won't upgrade to Catalina (and I have software taht won't run on Catalina). I was hoping that I could pick up a 2014 Mac Mini just to do compiling. Looks like it might not solve my problem.

I bought a used 2014 Mac Mini from Ebay for less than £200 compiled my game on 2nd attempt (1st run didn't have the correct 'team' id).

And if you make a copy of it, and remove some parts, does it stil crash? Maybe try to minimize the issue by removing things, at some point it should start to work and then you will know what code cause this. This might be proper valid code, but there might be bug in parser, which hangs on a specific one. I sometimes narrowed issues while reporting to 1-2 objects and 20-30 lines of code, from 40-50 MBytes.

Probably, that's what I intended to do before realizing I didn't really *need* to compile with YYC. I actually prefer to submit manual command lines (with the regular VM compiler) so I can automatize the notarization process.
My game is a huge project so it wouldn't be so easy to do anyway. We'll see if one day I truly need to compile with YYC.

For me, I can't even get YYC to compile a simple test program (One room with one object) with my regular Mac, though it will quite happily exports my full game to an Amazon Fire tablet.

I'm afraid not. I ended up not using YYC myself. I didn't submit a ticket to YoyoGames, that's what I suggest to do.

I submitted a ticket explaining the problem and providing example projects and logs and after waiting almost two months for a response they simply said it was the build tools and that they were confident the issues would be fixed if I followed the instructions, which I have tried at least four times now. I will start with an empty slate and just set it up from scratch and maybe that will fix something I may have overlooked.

Thanks! I followed the commands and I *seem* to have it working sporadically. Occasionally it will run the game but it wont appear at all (basically I get the icon in the tray but I can't click on it or see it). It also sometimes gets stuck writing chunks in the log output and I have to quit. If I can get an example of the log when it gets stuck I will post it.

EDIT: Also when I close the game the process keeps running and I have to manually stop it in the ide and I get failed: run program complete. Is this an issue?

Yes when I stop it I get the failed message. Also closing the game doesn‘t stop the build and stopping the build doesn’t close the game. I guess It’s better to use VM target for development.

Looks like you have other issues. I made sure to upgrade my operating system and install the latest Xcode release. I also checked the MacOS Security & Privacy settings and granted gamemaker all the permissions it requested. So maybe one of these things would help.

Is your game launched with 2x zoom like described here? I still don’t know if this is the default behavior or if I have an issue.

Hi, I'm having a similar problem getting YYC to work on MacOS. Could you please care to elaborate on exactly which commands you followed from the page in the link you posted?
This is late but hopefully it helps:
1- Install XCode
2- Run the following commands in your terminal:
xcode-select --install
sudo xcode-select -s /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer

I'm upgraded to Catalina and running into this issue with my project that I imported from 1.4 after recently purchasing Game Maker Studio 2 for the first time. I tried the above but it did not fix anything, unfortunately. :(

EDIT: Looks like this is happening even on a (basically) empty, new project for me as well.

It appears I have alzheimer's!

In googling my issue, I have come back to this thread 12 months afetr the last time I posted on it! :D. Though it did jog my memory on what the problem was the first time around.

Using non-alpha numeric characters in the project name causes this issue. eg brackets( ). so if you save your project as Projectname(v1.0) it will not run in YYC but still runs fine in VM
