Things from the 90s

Hello. I am making a video game. Yes.

Anyways, I dug some stuff up from storage because I was trying to find some stuff...

You like that? I had to flex my finger muscles making that.

I'm using said stuff for inspiration for stuff and scenarios for my game. For example:

This is my game's status bar. Well, part of it. It takes inspiration from a 1992 DW-6100 G-Shock.
G-Shocks (in general) were real popular before, well at least with my brother's classmates.

I'm making a list and checking it twice, gonna find out who - I mean, a list of things from the 90s and even stuff from way before the 90s that survived until the turn of the century (1999 -2000).

Let's see I remember pay phones and phone booths were everywhere. I'm gonna use this as save points.

Remember save points? Man, now its auto-save or save anywhere. If there was a save point, you know there was trouble. In a game. No save points in real life.

Floppy Disks - Verbatim, IBM Format. School projects used to save it in these things.

Cassette Tapes. Pop those suckers inside a car's casette player.

Cellphones with freakin' antennas. I used to play with a defunct one.

Film. Make the mistake of opening the camera up and poof - your photos obliterated by the sun.

V freakin' HS. Rent those from the rental shop. Collectibles?

Sure, I can search the internet but I might overlook something, and some of you guys might have some interesting things to say or experience to share.

cloths that look like there from hundreds of years ago, really bad hair styles, track suites, trainers that look so bland and cheap but were made my big brands, anything adidas as that brand was big in 80s and 90s not so much in 90s.

EDIT
forgot to add a few tings from the early 80s a digital calculator, digital watch that only displayed in red and only when you pressed the button to display it, otherwise it ran out of power in a day.

Make sure to give the main character a mushroom cut.

Wow. I'm glad I asked. Some of these things I would have definitely missed.

Just to be clear. My game isn't going to be set in the 1990s. I'm just gonna blend the 90s stuff with future stuff.

I should add that we should give answers that pertain to the popular culture of the time:

Tech, Film, Music, Television, Video Games, Sports, Literature, Fashion.

Heavier stuff like politics, social issues and the like - post with caution or not at all. While the era is characterized by these things, I don't want us to go there. I'll deal with that myself.

Right, I should add to the list to keep things rolling.

Yellow Pages. Those tomes of phone numbers and advertisements. In school, we used to try to rip one in half as a show of strength. None of us did rip one in half. Heh.

Cars - Acura. It had those headlights that hide.

Music. Radiohead. There was this one song that real popular.

The ultimate perfect blend of 90's culture, Japanese culture and future/sci-fi is a musical genre called "Future Funk". It is a sub-genre of the newly-born internet genre Vaporwave... Well... Actually... Vaporwave itself is also perfect, not just Future Funk...
Here are some songs (not putting in spoilers since I want this post to draw attention):

FUTURE FUNK (First 1,5 mins are enough to get the vibe):

VAPORWAVE (First 30 seconds are enough to get the vibe):

Now, let this music inspire you!

Speaking of games.

This is one of my favorite video games of all time.

Suikoden 2, released 1998, published and developed by Konami.

Konami may have drawn the ire of its fans. Konami also made some business decisions that made people angry - like firing Kojima or cancelling Silent Hills. Konami is also moving to aggressively pursue mobile platforms and move their franchises there...

They are also focused on making Pachinko Machines. Why I've read they made Metal Gear Solid 3 themed pachinko. Loved Metal Gear Solid 3.

....

Anyone remember Metal Slug? Great franchise.

The early iMac G3 from the late 90s. It's not something quintessentially 90s but they have a retro futuristic look and become trendy enough that they were in a lot of movies and TV show sets. Would make a good parody in a game.

Hello again my thread from way back when.

I thought you were buried under all the other threads.

Forgotten like the boomboxes, beepers and huge ass cellphones of a time long gone.

I thought you were gone yet here we are. Somebody dug you up.
