GUI design

Hi,

I have a game that is nearing completion, minus a User Interface. I've bought an 'off the shelf' GUI to get me started (image won't upload) which shows all the levels , which ones are playable and which are locked.

It seems like the number of sprites and the programming for positioning and switching from locked to unlocked for each level is almost as big an undertaking as the game itself, or am I missing something?

What exactly is your question?

No, GUIs are not something to blow off. They (usually) shouldn't take as much effort as the game itself, but they are certainly not quick and easy to implement.
