You may or may not be familiar with our previous release Boss 101 but for those of you who are you might notice some familiar themes in this game.

Concept

So, while we are gearing up for Boss 102 we wanted to do a little something fun and share our love of arcade style games with you. To that end, the Zazmo Arcade pack takes themes and game ideas we had for Boss 101, revises them and EXPANDS on them. While they may look familiar to you we are working to add value and most of all fun for you and a friend!

That’s right folks – this is not only about you but you and a friend!

Two-Player Co-Op Play

All the games in the Zazmo Arcade Pack will have both co-op and single player variations. Additionally we will have a head to head version of our game Breakdown.

Planned games for the Zazmo Arcade pack with (working) titles

Breakdown Deluxe – inspired by classic arcade game Breakout (head to head, single player and co-op)
Mazard Deluxe – a Wizard of Wor style game (from the same game in the early 80’s) – single player and co-op
Tank Battle Deluxe (a Combat Style tank battle) - single player and co-op
Rob’s Adventure Deluxe – a Shooter/SHUMP type game – single player and co-op
Last Stand (working title) – a game inspired from the 80’s arcade classic Rip-Off – single player and co-op

Some WIP screenshots of the games we will be adding into the Arcade Pack.

Breakdown Deluxe - WIP Screenshot

Mazard Deluxe - WIP Screenshot

Tank Battle DX - WIP Screenshot

Rob's Adventure DX - WIP Screenshot

Last Stand Screenshots Coming Soon!

Our game Tank War will get a co-op version in addition to the single player

Mazard will be also getting a co-op version!

Breakdown gets a co-op AND head to head version!

Rapid Prototype and Development

The idea behind the pack is to take an idea we already have, that we know is fun and works and then expand on it. We looked at Boss 101 and the arcade game inside it were something we always loved. It wasn’t a hard decision to consider those for a separate game and some added features.

Where we are at progress-wise

Well folks, we are getting rolling fresh in the new year. As you can see below we are just getting going. Mostly at this point we are bring over assets into the new game build and started the process of adjusting the placement of art. Gameplay is being introduced too and we are looking to drop in the two player components sooner than later.

Some SUPER early screens of the first prototype…

Oh man- here we go!

Here we have the first porting of the old art assets into the new build. As you can see there is a little re-jiggering to do. The old logo will be replaced and the new one will be dropped in. The overall formatting will stay the same.

WIP - first look at the main screen

This is a shot of Breakdown DX at its new size. Again - we are going to be adjusting the art a bit and adding in the two player option. This is where it all starts though!

WIP - first look at the Breakdown DX game screen

Though we are just starting we imagine this to be a rapid development situation. The idea here is we make a fun game, pack it with a ton of features and put it out there for you to enjoy. We expect to be able to hand out prototypes and early builds soon so drop us a line if you are interested.

Contact: hello (at) donleytimefoundation (dot) com

We are aiming to have this devlog to be in the same vein as our Boss 101 devlog here in this forum : Boss 101 Devlog YoYo Forum

Ok - that's a wrap for our first post! Thanks for joining us and remember to always – LIVE YOUR DREAMS!

Looks great, like the fact you have 2 player.

Big fan of the old style games, I'm currently making an Asteroids game as my introduction to GM.

Hello and welcome to the weekly Zazmo Arcade Development Update

Let’s start with a refresher – you get FIVE games for one price with the Zazmo arcade. Yep, FIVE games and each has multiple gameplay options for you to enjoy. Today we’re going to cover THREE of the five so hang on to your hats – here we go!

Breakdown

Breakdown is a classic. We have both head to head play as well as co-op and single player. This week we did a lot of tweaking to the play modes to make this thing fun and frenetic. The result, well you can see for yourself here.

Check out the head to head craziness as Cloud Paddle goes to battle with Green Duck Paddle! Look at the action. Did you know the better you do the MORE BLOCKS drop on your opponent? That’s right! If you start jamming you can drop up to ten extra rows on their side. BRUTAL!

Here’s a few samples of the bonkers gameplay that gets going once things heat up. Some solid play from both sides but ultimately Cloud Paddle gets dusted. So sad! Haha

Of course if you are in a friendly mood you can check out this WIP gameplay of the Co-op mode for Breakdown. In this one you can team up with a friend for maximum buddy action. See how far you both can get!

Last Stand

The return of a legendary game! In Last Stand you battle alone or with a friend to save your precious crystal hoard. Watch out for thieves coming in and hauling your goods away. You have unlimited ships but limited crystals. When the crystal are gone your game is over.

How long can you hold out?

Here we have two players putting the beat down on some bandits. Sadly they lose a crystal!

Tank Wars – The classic

Ok, we all know about classic arcade and console tank games. You know why they are classic? Because they are REALLY GOOD! The Zazmo Arcade Pack brings back classic head to head tank combat and adds in co-op and single player modes for your entertainment. Check out these WIP gameplay shots.

Here we have two buddies battling the red tank army. You will notice friends can revive each other in the co-op game. If your buddy is down you can keep hope alive by heading over to his tank and bringing him back in the action!

When all the co-op time is up you can always head into the combat arena and duke it out face to face! YEAH BUDDY!

You see how we are!?!?! These are only three of the five games too! Hang in there for more updates coming in the next week! We’ll be showing you all of the games!

Steam Store page is open for YOUR wish listing!

Head on over right now to the Steam Store page and wishlist the Zazmo Arcade pack here:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/770320/Zazmo_Arcade_Pack/

You won’t have to wait long – we would like the Zazmo Arcade Pack to be out soon. Soon like a month or two! SOONER IF WE CAN! Thank you for your support!

As always – remember to live your dreams!

Main Menu work

We got in main artwork for the title screen and started work on the game menu system. As you can see we’re keeping the theming we used in Boss 101. We did expand on the look but I think you might like the new game selection bit as one of the better parts!

Check this out!

Game Selection

The whole idea is to give you something to access the games and options you want quickly. You can see here from the WIP shots we allow you to select your game and option with simple scroll and select motions.

Game Improvements

Every game in the arcade has co-op and single player modes. Some of the games even allow head to head against a buddy. Below are just a few of the thing we did this week to improve various games and game mechanics

Tank Wars – Breakable walls

Tank Wars has an option to allow breakable walls when playing head to head! No more sneaking around!

Breakdown Head to Head – Power Drop

The better you do in Breakdown the more you charge the ‘drop bar’. What this does is allow you to drop more brick layers on your opponent to, ahem, roughen up their day. Haha. Watch this ten level drop happening when the drop counter hits zero.

Mazard – Three new maps

Here’s just one of the three new maps for Mazard. All maps are for co-op or single player use!

Last Stand – Gameplay tuning

We dove into the game Last Stand and started tuning AI and player movement. Here’s a sample:

Gameplay session with Matt (Toborprime)

Friday night we sat down with Toborprime and had a long session of Zazmo Arcade gaming. You can check that out here and we recommend you do! You’ll get a first hand look at all the games in the arcade pack as they are meant to be played!

Welcome to the latest ZAP update and thank you for joining us!

A lot of show and some tell for you this week so let’s get rolling!

Controllers and support for keyboard

Yes, we have it! Check out the latest, we have keyboard configuration for BOTH players and support for Xbox as well as PlayStation type controllers. You wanted it YOU GOT IT.

We also added a little disclaimer at the start of game load to tell you and all our friends that a controller is recommended. Come on folks – keyboard is still there but try it with a controller if you would be so kind! Your choice though and we let you do both.

Game tuning and tweaking!

Bounce shots are now in and you can select the amount of bounce. Check out some samples of bounce testing..

Richocet Shots are in too! YEEEEEEEESSSS!!!! This is one of my personal favs! You can guide your shots!

Mazard Super Bombs

Sitting still in Mazard?!?! NO MORE! You will have to keep moving while playing Mazard. This is s shot of the bomb and the current temp art for the flames. Note that the flames DO KILL enemies so there might be some useful strategy for people!

Menu Work

We did a lot of work on the menu’s this week and MAN – you gotta see the latest. Check out the sweet intro menu with the new game and option selection. Come on folks – that is COOL! HAAAAAAAA!!!

Game Play Video from Thursday

How’s the game coming along you ask? Well, look at the gameplay session from last Thursday! SEE FOR YOURSELF!

Breakdown of the games in ZAP

We had a few questions about what EXACTLY does the ZAP collection have compared to the similar games inside Boss 101. Generally speaking... a lot more! Mulitplayer, larger playing fields and tons more options are only a few. Check out the chart below for a highlight breakdown.

Ok – lots of work this week and more to come. Drop by the Zazmo store and if you are feeling froggy why don’t you sign up the ZAP Beta and check out the game yourself?!?

Hello and welcome back to the latest Zazmo Arcade update!

We had a busy week with updates and game tunes so let's get rolling!

Let's start strong with Thursday's video of our Twitch gameplay session. Are you watching these live? You should! We give out free Steam keys to the Zazmo arcade and say arguably interesting things!

Mazard

We added in the art for the Mazard bomb! If you sit still for too long you will be bombed by the Mazard himself. You have a few moments to get out of the way. One interesting thing is the bomb will take out enemies as well as players so maybe there is some strategic use for high level players.

Tank Wars

Shootable bullets as an option? YOU GOT IT! Now you can use your skillage to rock foolios when you shoot THEIR bullets.

Last Stand

We're continuing to work on the AI and looking at adding in a few new variables for you to set at the start of each game. We added a few tweaks to the controls to give the ships more of a spaceship feel too!

We also started adding in more details for the end of the round panels. Here you can see the player's icon on the panel. We are looking at giving the user some control over these for some end of round antics.

Rob's Adventure

Man, there is a lot going on here and we have a little more to do. We want to add in more options as we go. At the moment the game is looking to have more patterns and even some power ups. We're open to ideas so drop us a line!

Ok - that's all for this week and talk with you soon!

Remember to always - LIVE YOUR DREAMS!

Hello all and welcome to the weekly Zazmo Update!

Let’s get rolling shall we? We have a bunch of things to show you and it starts with the newest trailer for the Zazmo Arcade Pack! Check it out!

New Zazmo Trailer!

Curious about how the game looks in action? Well, we also have gameplay snippets from our games included along with THE DEVS TALKING! You know you’re curious. Check out the Thursday Night Twitch Stream here!

This week

A lot of this week has been about improving the various gameplay experiences in Zazmo. We added tunes to the Last Stand controls and touched-up the overall gameplay. Did you know we added in asteroids to spice things up? Yep, check it out!

There is a more control work to be done with the ships in this one. Personally, I think they are coming along well but I’d love to see a little more responsiveness in the turns. That’s on the table at the moment and we’ll keep you posted on our progress.

Tank Wars!

As we spoke about before, we have shootable bullets in Tank Wars now. It’s a really fun option and we have been playing around with it. Creates a lot of fun experiences and player options during battle. It looks like we are maxxed out on Tank Wars options. Haha. We’d really love to add more but we have to keep all the games on a somewhat even keel as we go forward. Still – Tank Wars is one of my (Tim) personal favs of the batch.

Tank Wars Maps - some map samples

Mazard Map Samples

We have some maps to show you for Mazard as well! Been playing a lot of Mazard and it’s hard to pick which one is my fav. They all have some great stuff in them!

More to come and talk with you soon. Please join us for the live streams on Monday and Thursday! We play games and give away keys to viewers. We would love to see you there and answer question if you have any!

Thank you again and remember to LIVE YOUR DREAMS!

...I like the style of Boss101... I think you guys do a good job and I would actually buy it for my NintendoDS... lots of love and effort you have put into your stuff, one can clearly tell. I admire you and your team putting that much detail into things.

...I have been noticing that you are treading me (I say "me" because I follow what you write) to be a potential main-target audience (kinda reads like that):
...
Curious about how the game looks in action?
...
You know you’re curious. Check out the Thursday Night Twitch Stream here!

Please join us for the live streams on Monday and Thursday! We play games and give away keys to viewers. We would love to see you there and answer question if you have any!
...when you talk to your family or friends, do you use:
"Bam! Check this out, this so unreal, you're gonna love it! It's my favourite all day long!"?
or do you say:
"Hey, what do you think of this?"

I know what I am getting at may be off-putting to read but for some reason I feel like you are more "advertising" than you actually seek for input or general opinions.... I mean you are still after all posting this in a "developer's" community who may not be big into playing games (I know I am not)

And since I feel that you may need some feedback on something that you are not necessarily good at (in only my opinion), here is what I can contribute from personal experience when reading your "advertisements":
1) Too many "punch-lines"
2) ... a million gifs on every update... my browser is old and miserable and takes forever to load all of them at once (including the previous once)
3) ...am I being accused of being curios ... I know that I like checking what other developers are up to... but don't attempt to slam it into my mind.
4) Try being more natural? If you for example would be actively involved into answering posts and things like that within the community here, I would not mention all this... but you appear like a television-game-show-person that pops up every now and then and promotes a sub-version of Boss101 just to keep things rolling and linked to the main product.

this is nothing personal ... I am just giving you my impression of why I as "potential target audience" would feel a little bent out of shape =)

@Kobold Thanks for dropping a note and it's appreciated.

It's Michael right? Good to meet you, I'm Tim.

Since you were so kind to drop me a line perhaps I can offer thoughts from another perspective?

First, and whether you believe me or not, I write EXACTLY as I talk. I mean, pretty much exactly. I work hard to not have different "Tims" for writing, talking and doing most things. There's just me. That's all. Whether you believe that or not is up to you. And yes, I actually do say things out loud like "Bam! Check this out, this so unreal, you're gonna love it! It's my favorite all day long!"? Hahahah. Well, I don't say BAM as often as BOOM but I think you get the point. Of course, if you do or don't like that Tim is another discussion altogether.

As for being "good" at something like posting. I'm posting here to share our work. I'd love to spend a TON of time on the forums but, and this will not surprise you, I'm working on our games. I'm passionate about my job and I love what I do. It's up to the audience to read into that what they will. I have been in game development for, well, about 30 years now. I've been a development director working with teams close to 200 people in size and asked to do presentations to thousands about my projects and development philosophies many times. That's not said to impress you, only to say I have had a different experience with my personality than you might think.

To the points that you "feel" I might need feedback on:
1) Don't know what that is referring to but maybe you mean use of capitals? When I see punch line, I think of a joke and a delivery but I don't know if that was the intent there. No worries though.
2) I think we're coming in under a million gifs an update at the moment, I'm guessing we average about 5 or so. I would like to pause here and point out the use of hyperbole to explain an overall alleged use of hyperbole.
3) I am not too certain about what's being slammed into your mind. I'm not attempting to do anything than talk in my regular voice with the regular level of excitement I have towards our team's work. I can't and won't apologize about loving what I do and sharing it. I also won't tone that down since it's my sincere feelings. Again, it's up to you to decide if you believe me but I think if you go back and check out my years of posting here I'm pretty consistently "me" through all of them.
4) Well, this is an odd one since this is me. Again - you seem to have a different option and THAT IS OK!

I want to be clear the Zazmo Arcade is not (at least to us) a 'sub' version of Boss 101 made to link to Boss 101. It's slightly off-putting and disappointing to hear you say that. You are allowed to have an OPINION about anything at all of course but in this thread I am focused on Zazmo. Sure we did Boss 101 but it's not like we aren't allowed to build off that universe. The dev forums are a place to support fellow devs with constructive criticism. "Sub-version of Boss 101" is not coming across as constructive in my opinion. You've given your thoughts about me personally and what you call my "tv show" personality and I am fine with that. However, if you don't like the idea of the Zazmo Arcade fair enough but there's no need to call it a sub Boss 101 or insinuate it's there as a Boss 101 shill product. It's not.

Also, from my personal observations, nine times out of ten when someone starts a sentence with "this is nothing personal" it's something personal. hahaha. For the sake of argument, we'll say you're that one in ten.

I'm guessing you already know what I am about to say but here goes, I feel there will always be people who don't like your work for one reason or another and you will never make much headway chasing down 'likes' or trying to win favor. The best thing is to be true to yourself and do what you love. I am and I hope you are too. I don't know you much beyond this post but you came in here to drop some advice and for that I thank you.

If you want to talk further about my personality about how you think I can improve then please feel free to message me directly and we can talk! I'd love to chat. Perhaps I can offer you some of my meager knowledge if you like. If you want to talk about the Zazmo Arcade pack itself, this is the thread for it! If you want to talk about Boss 101, we have a thread for that too.

Take care man, and (I do mean this) please live your dreams!

Best,

-Tim

It's Michael right? Good to meet you, I'm Tim.
...
...likewise. Yes it is... I prefer to introduce myself with my real name to people who I directly message, work together with or have in my friends list though.

Since you were so kind to drop me a line perhaps I can offer thoughts from another perspective?
...that is the way it works, I guess.

It's my favorite all day long!"? ...
...I didn't expect that... must be pretty intense having a face to face conversation with you. ...I meant this in a good way...

...I'd love to spend a TON of time on the forums but, and this will not surprise you,...
...is this "TON" in contrast to the "a million gifs" I said earlier?

...I have been in game development for, well, about 30 years now. I've been a development director working with teams close to 200 people in size and asked to do presentations to thousands about my projects and development philosophies many times. ...
...this is impressive. I mean you are here with a very beautifully done 2D game and a three-headed team (a pixel artist and a coder that can pull off everything... based on the Boss101 topic)... that's awesome, I get that.

To the points that you "feel" I might need feedback on:...
...it is not easy to put yourself into a hobby-developer's position that reads your posts in a WiP... again... I mean the way you are presenting these things is almost at: "Come play and buy our stuff!"
...but being the person "that I am" I have to raise my eyebrows over it..."Is he now pasting his gaming-community advertisement into a dev-community sorta environment or am I getting this all wrong?" ...but after what I have read on response , am just getting it all wrong... well it's time to apologize... I don't always catch onto obvious things. Might be my downfall one day... and I am not being sarcastic here. The way I am is pretty edge at times.

I want to be clear the Zazmo Arcade is not (at least to us) a 'sub' version of Boss 101 made to link to Boss 101. It's slightly off-putting and disappointing to hear you say that. ...
...I guess I could have chosen a different term than sub-version... but I thought you have mentioned that this is sorta like an add-on or something to Boss101. I am sorry ..it feels like a good mini-game collection , if that makes any sense. It's a nicely done mini-game collection... maybe the link to Boss101 caused a little confusion here... on my end anyway.

Also, from my personal observations, nine times out of ten when someone starts a sentence with "this is nothing personal" it's something personal. hahaha. For the sake of argument, we'll say you're that one in ten.
...if it would be personal I would not let a single good thing on anything which you have posted... which is not the case (the way I see it) ...I said that I like your work... but I think your presentation is put towards the wrong audience... you tread me like "C'mon I know you want it too!" ...and I am a GMS user just like you "making" games not "dying to play everything".

I feel there will always be people who don't like your work for one reason or another and you will never make much headway chasing down 'likes' or trying to win favor. [...] I don't know you much beyond this post but you came in here to drop some advice and for that I thank you.
...no one really takes criticism very well... as it pulls one right back down to earth... I am dealing with it every day and I have learned to put myself into some else's shoes...
Try it yourself... things start then making more sense. Most people lack that skill... they go like "I am a people person, everyone likes me, I know what people want, my strength is presentation"... and then there is this one 💩💩💩💩💩💩💩 (me in that case) who speaks his mind.

If you want to talk further about my personality[...]
...I made myself sound like a total jerk... I get it.

I think you are a good person, your games are cool... but you advertise rather than share your work (my bottom line... take it or leave it)

Michael, great post but like I clearly said, this isn't a discussion about me, this is a discussion about Zazmo. There's no need to do a point by point thing again and I'm sensing a slight bit of defensiveness from you with comments like "I am dealing with it (criticism) every day and I have learned to put myself into some else's shoes... Try it yourself..." I'm not looking to hurt your feelings or make you think I don't care. I do. You said your peace. I answered.

Let's table this public personality conversation and talk privately as I asked you to before. I understood from the beginning this was your opinion, I was 'in your shoes" then so we'll just leave it there. You have your opinion and I have mine - just like everyone on the planet. I get it - you were just looking to help. Noted and appreciated.

Take care man. Best of luck with your game, live your dreams and we can talk about the game Zazmo anytime.

Best,

-Tim

Welcome to the weekly Zazmo Arcade Update

Been a lot of action at the Time Foundation and we have the videos to prove it.

First off, Early Access

We did a bit of thinking about this one. The Zazmo Arcade has been getting some really good feedback from the community at large and we are working to take everything we can from you and integrate it. After a few weeks we felt the game had progressed to a near feature complete level and mostly was needing a lot of tuning.

In comes Early Access. We have set up this coming Thursday as the launch day for Early Access. We will be pricing the game at $6.99 and we are going to be giving current Boss 101 owners a discount when they purchase it. Details are still being ironed out and our hope is to bring over some of the friends from Boss 101.

Early Access ideally will give the game a lot more exposure and bring in more community feedback. On our end, we’re still sending out keys to as many people as we can. A lot of folks signed up for the BETA and we are using their feedback and our own direction to guide development.

Zazmo ultimately will be a collaborative project with our friends, fans and you here are invited to join. If you’re reading this and are interested we think it’s always worth commenting here or even getting a copy of the game and checking it out. There are a few ways to do this and we are always open to handing out keys to fellow devs if we feel there’s a mutual interest.

IndieDB Zazmo Key Giveaway

We are also running a contest with IndieDB for Zazmo keys to be given away. Enter here for a key if you want!

Hello everyone and welcome to the Zazmo Development Update!

We have something pretty special this time around. As you might already know we have a twice weekly game development stream on Twitch. Well, this week we started a new segment for the Zazmo Arcade called “The Clueless Programmer”. In this series our lead programmer Joshua will teach ME how to program a game (well, how to program parts of a game)!

We have two episodes to share with you. In the first one Joshua walks me thourgh some special effects and tuning work. In episode two we go a little bigger and I get to make a new object in GameMaker and add in my own code!

The idea here is we will be taking small programming projects from the Zazmo Arcade Pack and turning them into video tutorials. Check it out and see what you think! We’d love to know if you enjoy them.

Zazmo Arcade in Early Access right now!

We went into Steam Early Access with the Zazmo Arcade and we’d love you to check out the store and support us if you like. We have a discount bundle to get Boss 101 and Zazmo together as well as a discount on the Zazmo Arcade Pack for all Boss 101 users!

Thank you again for joining us and remember to always – live your dreams!!!

Hello and welcome to the weekend Zazmo Arcade Pack (ZAP) update!

First off - YES! We are bringing the Zazmo Arcade Pack to the Xbox One! More details coming but the good news here is we were accepted by Microsoft to bring ZAP over to their system. Needless to say - we are stoked!

What has been happening this week?

OK onto the rest of the update. If you have been following along you know we are currently in Early Access. To that end we have some videos of our friends playing the game in this update! Check out the links below.

Well, most of the time was spent tuning the games and getting the high scores hooked up. Up until now the local high scores were connected but we added in the Steam Friends and Global high scores. So yes, you can now see how the rest of the world is doing!

We also continued with specific game tunes. This time we were looking at the game Last Stand and giving it a couple of tweaks to make it more fun. One thing we adjusted was the amount of control the player has. The ships were a slight bit sluggish so we corrected them to be more responsive. We also fixed an issue where enemy ships would target players as they spawned on screen. This lead to a lot of instant kills and quick deaths for player. That’s all gone now.

During the week we started up two new series on game development. We did a segment on the Clueless Artist and had a game night. The Clueless artist took a look at making art for Zazmo and walked our programmer Joshua through the process of a “Get hit” animation. He made the art, animated it and then implemented it himself.

Game night saw us playing a few old classis arcade games in order to get ideas for a new Zazmo Pack. Of course there was a lot of scream and yelling as you might guess!

Check out the video below for a recap of the week as well as a look at some of the Zazmo playthroughs.

Hey Tim,

Had missed this thread. I knew you were quite proud of the mini retro arcade in Boss 101, but think its a great idea to expand that out into a whole game in itself :)

Hello and welcome back to the latest Zazmo Arcade Pack update!

Game testing and tuning continue

We have a few new things to drop in your lap this week. We are working on the achievements for the game and have an art set for the high score awards to show. Check out the image below. It represents some of the medals we will be awarding for various games and high scores in those games. The idea is to keep a base look and have some sort of tier (or star) system to represent higher and harder achievements.

I know the whole star thing gets used a lot but it is a really good way to show things progressing. Well, that and trophies. Haha

Game and Development Twitch Streams Continue

Episode 3 of the Clueless Programmer went off this week. Check out Joshua teaching time all about ways to code movement of your characters and objects with the gamepad.

We cover a lot of interesting (well, to me at least) ways that Zazmo is setup. Joshua walks me through a lot of his thinking as a programmer and overall – I learned something! Haha

Game Development Dev Talks and Game Night

Joshua and I sat down and played some old arcade games, including the ones that inspired the Zazmo arcade (specifically Rip-Off). We explore co-op games to find what is working and why!

Check out Episode 2 and 3 below. Lots of fun laughs and good times.

Episode 2

Episode 3 – playing Cadillacs and Dinosaurs

We find out freaking a BLANKA look alike is in this game!

Ok – more to come and don’t forget we will be coming to the Xbox One too!! YEAH BUDDY!

Hello and welcome to the latest Zazmo Arcade Pack update!

As you might remember we are working on making our updates a little jazzier and to that end we are now recording videos twice a week to track the game’s progress. Let’s talk about the highlights and then move into the videos themselves.

Bug fixes and tunes

One of the more recent additions to the game was the addition of powerups to Rob’s Adventure and Breakdown. We added these in to help spice up the gameplay and give players more things to do in round.

For Rob’s Adventure we added in some shooter favs like Multi-Shot, Power Shot and the Beam cannon. All of these are in the game now. Once nice touch is all of them scale the more you grab of the same type. You can grab up to three of the same type (at the moment) to get a maximum attach effect. It’s pretty cool and the visual will scale along with the power so you really get a sense of progression. Currently though if you grab a different type of powerup from the ones you are ‘collecting’ then you will reset with that one back to level one. We think that adds a nice element of dodging and collecting to the game.

In Breakdown we added a three new powers. The ‘other’ down arrow, the rocket and the explosion. Other down arrow causes your opponents side to drop in a head to head match. The rocket fires a cutter ball straight up into the sky that bursts into three balls on impact. Finally the explosion powerup will destroy the lowest row you have on screen.

All in all the progress is coming along well and we are getting in some good work while we wrap up the Xbox One conversion of Boss 101.

Episode 10 - Game Dev Night

Playing, testing and developing the powerups

Episode 11 - Guest starring Matt Fitzgerald of Savage: Shards of Gosen fame!

Twitch Streams

Come join us for our live game development streams during the week. We consistent stream on Mondays and Thursdays at 6pm CST and would love to see you there. It’s been a lot of fun meeting you and interacting with all of you who have shown up.

Welcome to the weekly Zazmo Arcade Update

We have a bit of a shorter update this week. All three of us are concentrated on getting our other game Boss 101 through submissions at Microsoft. On that end we are in the home stretch and that means a bit of bug fixing and adjustments to the build for the Xbox One. Thankfully nothing we can’t handle but it is taking our focus.

Onwards and upwards!

On the Zazmo end, I did this week’s game night and development update. Looked at some of the older classics we have been inspired from. It’s interesting to see how these game which are closing in on 30 years old hold up.

Game Development Dev Talk with Zazmo, looking at older game designs

Checked out the sequel to a game called Rush N Attack and man – that thing is a quarter muncher. You die so often and the game is so brutal!

Also did a run through Bionic Commando. It’s hard to overstate the great ideas in that game and how far they permeate into many other games. Really fun still but also a really hard game to just get through without dying a lot! I mean a lot.

On the strictly Zazmo front we are looking to wrap up development and leave Early Access once we are done with Boss 101 on the Xbox One. As we have said – there are not a lot of things on the main list left. We are mostly looking at polishing things and adjusting gameplay bits. All the core gameplay tenets are there and we are focused on making the whole things smooth and easy to play.

Personally I am pretty excited about the new powerups for the games Breakdown and Rob’s Adventure. They add a lot to already fun games and bring the whole experience up a notch or two.

OK, check out the video and we will talk with you soon!
