HTML5 Curse of the eastern god

Curse of the Eastern God was made in 48 hours as an entry for Ludum Dare 43 (accessible here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/43/curse-of-the-eastern-god)

It is a game where everyone is affected by a CURSE. A CURSE which forces your screen to either remain in place or move to the right (and you can never go back.) Will you stay still and live a happy life? Or will you walk inescapeably towards certain doom?

- conversations with eldritch beings

Controls:

WASD/Arrow keys: move
Space bar / up / W / Z: jump
F4: toggle fullscreen mode (windows only)

Starting out it was hard to motivate this game or what I'm supposed to do (e.g. lack of a HUD or progress indicator or an idea of what I'm working towards during the "Wood" phase), but moving on to the money phase was a cool concept, as was the style of the dialog after. I wish the money-making mechanic was a bit different, but overall the theme felt pretty fresh, which I enjoyed. Not sure the best way to figure out the balance between motivating / guiding the player and encouraging discovery.

hey, thanks for playing :) the idea I had to motivate the player was just "you can't do anything here anymore. You are bored. Just go right to see if anything is new."
